Benq Zowie XL2411P Review – Intro

Check this Benq Zowie XL2411P Review if you want an affordable 144Hz gaming monitor for your competitive esports gaming from a known brand on this field.

If you want a more detailed article about monitor specs and other technical info, you can visit my link on what a gaming monitor is.

Here I will just cover as much as needed for the review to be independent but not too exhaustive.

Well Is this Monitor Any good?

To tell you the truth, I don’t own the monitor. But as you might have heard (so did I), Benq monitors are used for competitive esports so it should be good.

Currently on Amazon US it has a 4.2 / 5 stars rating with 285 customer reviews.

On Amazon UK it has 4.3 / 5 stars rating with 119 customer reviews.

Both on Amazon US and UK it is currently on Amazon’s choice.

From all these ratings you can tell (of course the brand is very reputable as well) that it’s a good monitor. But that’s just a good start. We need to look for other characteristics as well to have a complete image of what this monitor offers.

Amazon US Warranty

This monitor’s warranty is great! 3 years. But note in the review snippet I put an asterisk there. In Amazon US it says clearly in the description that it offers 3 years warranty.

Amazon UK Warranty

In Amazon UK it offers Amazon’s 3 year protect for an additional cost. There is a reply in the questions from Benq customer service that gives a link to a warranty site for the UK but that site doens’t say any number.

So based on the above, you can assume that you need to pay more for the 3 year warranty.

Panel Types

This monitor is TN (Twisted Nematic) which means it has high response times but the viewing angle is small and the colours are not so rich as other panel types.

The other 2 Panel Types are IPS (In-Plane Switching) and VA (Vertical Alignment).

IPS Panels offer wider viewing angles and wider colour gamut but higher response times.

VA Panels are the “middle line” between IPS and TN Panels.

FPS vs Hz

BenQ Zowie XL2411P Review - FPS vs Hz

FPS and Hz are both a metric that counts cycles per second. The FPS term is an Abbreviation of Frames Per Second while Hz is the name of the creator (Hertz) who invented the metric of cycles per second and is used in many areas not only for monitors (for example wifi frequencies at 2.4 GHz or 5GHz).

That’s what makes these terms be confused. In our gaming monitors case Hz counts the number of cycles the monitor refreshes the image.

So since you are seeing this review, you want to use the 144Hz. What this means?

That your graphics card you have can produce 144 FPS per second for your game of play, so that you fully utilize the 144 Hz that this monitor offers.

Otherwise you shouldn’t get this monitor, you can get one with 75 Hz Maximum refresh rate. Unless you are planning to make an upgrade to your gaming setup as a whole.

YouTube Video for Refresh Rates

This video is quite popular on YouTube (and quite useful).

Anime Intro Break!

Need a break? Like Anime? Check the following intro! If you are seeing any Anime, feel free to tell me about it(please include something about this review so it’s complete!).

AMD FreeSync*

As you already might know, AMD FreeSync is AMD’s technology to adjust the Hz of your monitor dynamically in coordination with your games’ FPS.

Benq Customer Service in the US says that this monitor supports AMD FreeSync but in the UK that it doesn’t.

So what you can do? In every game there is an option to cap the FPS to your monitor’s Refresh Rate. You could do that so your game will play in constant 144 FPS Mode.

Not recommended for XBox only usage

I saw there were many people asking questions about buying it to play on their Xboxes. Xbox supports only 60Hz so unless you are gonna use it for both Xbox and PC, there is no need to buy this monitor.

Some minor issues

There is a positive review (that 150 people found helpful) that said the monitor might need extra setup and maybe an extra DisplayPort cable because the one provided doesn’t work.

– Lots of setting up to do compared to other products but at least there’s fixes for them.
– Had to use my own displayport cables to get this puppy to turn on. “
