Welcome!

The Acer Nitro 5 VS HP Pavilion PvP is unfolding. If you are interested to learn who is better and why, then you should read more and tune in!

Little Things Before We Get Started

As you might know, there are plenty of Acer Nitro 5s out there and plenty of HP Pavilions. So in this post I will focus on those at the $600-700 price range that I think are the most worth for their money.

Of course out of all those I will pick one that I think is the best. But that’s just my opinion, you can leave your thoughts on the comments at the end or PM me through the contact form at the bottom of the site.

Acer Nitro 5’s that will be included in this comparison:

  1. Model AN515-43-R0YM. It has the RX 560X Graphics card, the Ryzen 5 3550H CPU, 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB NVMe SSD disk.
  2. Model AN515-53-55G9. It has the GTX 1050 Ti Graphics card, the i5-8300H CPU, 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB NVMe SSD disk.

HP Pavilions that will be included in this comparison:

  1. HP Pavilion Flagship. It has the GTX 1050 Ti Graphics card, the i5-8300H CPU, 8GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB HDD disk.
  2. HP Pavilion Model 15-cx0056wm. It has the GTX 1050 Ti Graphics card, the i5-8300H CPU, 8GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB HDD disk.

But you might say why you don’t mention about monitors? Because all of the above laptops have the standard 60Hz IPS Monitors. TN monitors are becoming obsolete because their viewing angle is so small.

More About GPU

The GPUs used for the laptops in this comparison are the Geforce GTX 1050 Ti and the AMD RX 560X. As you can see in the pictures below (taken from GameDebate), the RX 560X outperforms the GTX 1050 Ti in FPS.

Not a lot of course but the difference grows more as the FPS grow.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Metro Exodus

Notes

All the above benchmarks are from Ultra Settings at FHD (1080p). I only listed the games that had red colors (and not all) because the minimum requirement for a game to be playable is 30 FPS.

Since this is on the Ultra Settings, you can play the above games (and almost any game) on Low or Medium Presets.

Conclusion – Feedback

We reached the end of this comparison. Hope you found it useful. If you like the HP Pavilions, check out this link. It has a Pavilion (15-dk0051wm) with the 9th gen i5 and an SSD. Can’t find anywhere in the link if the SSD is SATA3 or NVMe. Probably it’s SATA3.

The price is $699 at the moment. The only drawback is the GTX 1050 Graphics card. Well if you don’t play heavy titles, then there would be no real problem. It has nice rating and nice reviews. Maybe I will include it in some other post!

Any thought you might have, feel free to put it in the comments below. Hope you had fun!. Have a nice day.

  1. What’s great is that I am actually thinking of getting a new laptop in the future and this was a really good article. As a gamer, it’s important to have the power and processing speed to be able to play some of the more demanding games. I have a Dell now but was starting to look at Acer laptops. I’ve heard they’re decent and the breakdown of the laptops here will definitely help me out later. Great post!

    1. Hello Nightwulf. If you play some demanding games like Metro Exodus, Assassin’s Creed Origins etc you certainly need a good gaming laptop with mostly a good GPU. CPU also matters, I really don’t like the U type CPUs for gaming.

The Acer Nitros in this article are really good and generally the Nitros are very popular. Even though the GTX 1050 Ti and the AMD RX 560X can play most of the games at the moment (some at low or medium presets), new graphics cards come around that are more perfomant than the others.

As far as I know, the new Geforce GTX 1650 is more powerful than both GTX 1050 Ti and the AMD RX 560X and there is currently one laptop that is under $700 and is a pretty good deal. It’s the Asus Tuf FX505DT-AH51. Check out my other article which has a full list of gaming laptops under 700 dollars. I can’t wait to see what graphics card AMD will bring that counter the GTX 1650.

Thanks for stopping by. You can always PM me through the contact form on the bottom or just leave a comment here if you need any assistance. Have a nice day.

  2. Excellent article. I have used an Acer Nitro 5 and have found wonderful results while playing PubG. The cost is also around $700 so that really makes this machine an absolute steal for high-end gaming. I have not tried your other recommendations personally but would love to play a few games on these mean machines. Thanks for the reviews and recommendations. They would be invaluable to gamers like me.

    1. Hello there. I really liked the term mean machines haha. Check out the Asus Tuf FX505DT-AH51. For a $699.99 gaming laptop, it certainly is a mean machine. It has a GTX 1650 GPU and a 120Hz Monitor. Still haven’t found one that has better specs than that.

The Acer Nitros are nice laptops and very popular. Let’s see if we get one with a GTX 1650 and less than 700 dollars in the future.

Thanks for dropping your comments. Have a nice day.

  3. I agree with the Acer Nitro over the HPs. I would want to upgrade the RAM to 16GB. Have to get a nice cooling pad and some really good speakers or headphones. This would probably still be way under 800 bucks still. Excellent comparison. I like my laptop to run games at least 80 fps without much effort. Thanks for the excellent tech explanations.

    1. Hello Jay. The HPs look nice to me as a design (and I like the green backlight) but when you are buying a budget laptop, you care about the best value for money. The Acer Nitros(both of them in this comparison) in the past few weeks had a price tag of $599.99. It certainly was worth buying them. It’s even quite worth buying them without the discount.

If you play games likes League of Legends, Fortnite, CS:GO, even the worst GPU in this price range would do. But if you want to play games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider or Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in decent graphics (Medium or Low presets), it’s wise you choose the best you can.

You can check out the Asus Tuf FX505DT-AH51 on Amazon. I think it’s the best choice for an under $700 gaming laptop. Glad you stopped by. Have a nice day.

  4. Both laptops are really very cool. I have a friend who uses the HP Pavillion and he plays some top notch games. I have not seen anyone play any games with the Acer Nitro 5 though it’s a very good system based on this comparison. I was already expecting a higher price from HP though. Nice review and insight. I like both, I have a friend who wants to change his laptop. Maybe your review will be of help.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. I like the design of HP Pavilions and its green backlight. Check my other comparison on Acer Nitro 5 VS Asus Tuf505. Long story short, check out the Asus Tuf505FXDT-AH51 on Amazon. It costs $699.99 and offers what I believe the best specs for this price range (GTX 1650, 120Hz Monitor, 256GB NVMe SSD).

      Have a nice day.

  5. Thank you so much George. This was really helpful to me. For some time now, I have been between confused not knowing what type of Gaming Laptop to purchase. Maybe because I am a very detailed person and a lover of Game and adventure. I was tired of buying a Gaming Laptop that will not be compatible to all the kind of Games I want to play. All thanks to you for this detailed comparism. I now know Exactly what specification I will be needing.

    1. Hello Emmanuel. I’m glad you found this comparison helpful. If you are playing big and demanding titles like Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed Origins, check out the Asus Tuf 505DT-AH51 on Amazon. For the time being, it provides the best specs at $699.99.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a nice day.
