Budget Laptops GPU Comparison Video

Budget Gaming laptops around this price have usually one of the 3 graphics cards: GeForce GTX 1050, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and AMD RX 260X. You might see GeForce MX150 but mostly you will come across the 3 above.

For 2019, the above cards would do just fine even if you want to play big titles. But beware as some titles will only play to the minimal 30 FPS rate at a Medium or Low Preset.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43-R0YM Review

This Acer Nitro 5 is less popular than the one with the GTX 1050 Ti. But the truth is, that this one that has the RX260X Graphics Card performs better in FPS (Frames Per Second) than the GTX 1050 Ti. Even still in 2019, it considered a good value for money.

More About GPU

AMD RX560X VS GeForce MX150

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43-R0YM Review - RX 560X vs MX 150

The same goes on with other types of benchmarks as well. The MX150 has better perfomance and FPS only at 1280X720 Resolution.

AMD RX560X VS GeForce GTX 1050

Again the RX560X loses when it comes to the Resolution 1280X720 offscreen. The same results occur with the other benchmarks as well.

For this case, we can use some FPS benchmarks from GameDebate.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43-R0YM Review - RX 560X vs GTX 1050 FPS Benchmarks

Of all the Benchmarks GameDebate has, the RX 560X has more FPS than the GTX 1050.

If you have noticed the red vertical lines on all the games, they are at the 30 and 60 FPS mark respectively.

This is because 30 FPS mark is the minimum requirement for a game to be considered “playable” and the 60 FPS mark is the recommended requirement.

Taking the fact the the minimum Monitor Refresh Rate (Hz) is 60 Hz , it is reasonable that if the game plays at 60 FPS or more, the game will be smoother than it playing at about 30 FPS.

According to GameDebate’s benchmark list, the only games that will be playing below 30 FPS are Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and Control.

But all these benchmarks are taken with Ultra Settings on. So you will be able to play the above games at a lower setting.

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey requires a GeForce GTX 970 as the recommended GPU, which is quite more powerful than the AMD RX 260X.

Unfortunately, the site with the above benchmarks doesn’t have the RX 260X but only the RX 260. You can assume that the perfomance of the GTX 970 will be better by about 70% of the RX 260X.

Control’s Recommended GPU is GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1060. Both of them offer greater perfomance than the RX 560X.

GTX 1660 (Left) Versus RX 260 (Right)

So if your game of choosing recommends(Recommended Settings) a GTX 1060, GTX 1660, GTX 1070, AMD RX 290 or equivalent in processing power (maybe older generations like the GTX 970 etc), then you can assume you can play it at about 30 FPS.

Of course looking for hard proof is better. I have put up a Playable Games Table below but this table is made mostly by looking up the games requirements and comparing them to RX 260X.

Where I could find actual benchmarks (maybe some YouTube Videos), I put the FPS numbers in the row for the specific game.

AMD RX 260X VS GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

As you might know or have guessed, the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is a better version of the GTX 1050. But how much better? Take a look at the image below.

GTX 1050 Ti (Left) Versus GTX 1050 (Right)

Well practically these numbers mean about 3-5 FPS more for a game that runs at 30 FPS Avg with a GTX 1050.

Can’t say this enough but an SSD as a primary disk drive is the way to do it. You can always put another HDD or SHDD in the HDD slot later.
